RESTORING ACCESS, IMPROVING SECURITY: LEKKI LCDA BEGINS CHANNELIZATION WORKS IN IGBO OLOMI
June 18, 2026In a proactive response to emerging security concerns across the country and recent developments within the South-West region, the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali (MNSE, MNATE), today convened a high-level Peace and Security Meeting with heads of security agencies and key community stakeholders across the council area.
The meeting brought together representatives of the Police, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Marine security operatives, local vigilante groups, hunters, the Olokun security outfit, and other critical stakeholders.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration among security agencies and communities to address issues relating to kidnapping, banditry, cultism, illicit drug activities, illegal migration, the proliferation of arms and ammunition, and other threats capable of undermining the peace and stability of the area.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman emphasized that security must remain a collective responsibility, stressing that Lekki LCDA must remain a hostile environment for criminal elements.
“We must make it impossible for criminals to find a safe haven anywhere within Lekki LCDA. Security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, business owners, and residents all have important roles to play in safeguarding our communities,” he stated.
The meeting also highlighted the need for increased residents’ awareness and intelligence sharing, proper documentation and registration processes within communities, and stronger engagement with hotel operators to ensure greater vigilance regarding the activities and identities of guests.
In addition, stakeholders underscored the importance of clearing shanties and criminal hideouts where necessary, as well as maintaining the sanitation and accessibility of coastal waterways and other vulnerable areas to improve surveillance and security monitoring.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to deepen cooperation, strengthen intelligence gathering, and sustain proactive measures aimed at preserving peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that Lekki LCDA remains a safe and secure place for residents, businesses, and visitors.
